WELCOME TO DUBAI

IBF Masters World Championship 2021

Categories for each gender per age category will be:

  • Singles  (Maximum four athletes per gender per federation)
  • Doubles (Maximum two doubles per gender per federation)
  • Team (Maximum one team (4 athletes) per gender per federation)
  • Mixed Team (Maximum two mixed teams per country (2 female +2 male per team))
  • Most Valuable Athlete Medal per gender
  • Most valuable Federation Trophy per gender
  • Most valuable Federation Trophy (combined female and male)

If a federation can only send one athlete then that athlete will only compete in the Singles event.

If a federation sends two male athletes and two female athletes then they will enter the singles, doubles and mixed team event.

A federation can bring a maximum of eight athletes per gender, if desired, though each event holds a maximum number of participants per federation.  Meaning not all eight athletes can compete in the same category.  As example;  Four could compete in the singles event and a different four could compete in the doubles.

Most Valuable Athlete Medal and Federation Trophy will be earnt from positioning NOT pinfall.

Most Valuable Athlete Medal will be based on any athlete who competes in all four primary medal phases:  Singles, Doubles, Trios and Team

Most Valuable Federation Trophy per gender will be based on the results of the federation per gender in all five medal phases: Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team and Mixed Team

Scoring Method
Traditional Scoring system will be used across all World Championships formats.

Style of play
Dual lane style
• A game shall be played on two lanes (a pair) immediately adjoining each other.
• Individual entrants shall successively and in regular order bowl one frame on one lane, and for the next frame alternate and use the other lane until five frames are bowled on each lane of the pair

Match play group format
• Each athlete bowls one match against every other athlete in the group
• Matches consist of one game

Singles 50+

Players Nomination
All federations are allowed to enter four singles 50+ athletes per gender. The athlete nominations must be delivered to IBF Tournament office in Dubai International Bowling Center no later than 18:00 (6.00pm) on Nov 17th. 10 games divided into two squads of 5 games each. Top 32 athletes qualify for group match play. Two players per lane. Change of lane after each game. A detailed lane movement schedule will be presented before the start of the event.

Ties to advance to match play will be broken by a one game match between the tied athletes. The tie-breaker match will take place one hour prior to the start of the group match play round. Additional ties will be broken by a 9th & 10th frame roll-off. Ties for position in groups will be broken by highest last game in qualification. If a tie still exists it’s broken by highest 9th game and so forth until tie is broken.

The Leaderboard will be split into four groups (A,B,C,D) using a snake system. The snake will start with the highest finisher being placed in group A and moves across each group.

Singles group match play
32 athletes qualify from qualification. Four groups of 8 athletes are created based on position in qualification.

Each group will play 7 games Round Robin. 3 points will be awarded for a win in a match, 1 point to each athlete for a tie. From each of the 4 groups the top 2 athletes in points will advance to quarter-finals. Athletes will play on one pair of lanes, one athlete per lane. Lanes are assigned from a predetermined schedule.

Ties in a group to advance will be broken by a one game match between the tied athletes. The tie-breaker match will take place immediately after last group match have been played. Additional ties will be broken by a 9th & 10th frame roll-off.

Singles quarter-finals
Eight athletes qualify from group match play. Winners in each match play group will play second place athletes. Quarter-finals will be played over one game. Winners advance to the semi-final.

Quarter-finals will be played on one pair of lanes, one athlete per lane. Highest ranked athlete from group match play gets the chose starting lane (left or right). Ties for ranking will be broken by total pinfall in qualification. Ties to advance will be broken by a 9th & 10th frame roll-off.

Singles semi-finals
Four athletes qualify from quarter-finals. Semi-finals will be played over one game. If tied a 9th and 10th frame roll-off will be played to decide the winner. Winners advance to the final.
Semi-finals will be played on one pair of lanes, one athlete per lane. Highest ranked athlete from group match play gets to choose starting lane (left or right). Ties for ranking will be broken by total pinfall in qualification. Ties to advance will be broken by a 9th & 10th frame roll-off.

Singles finals
Two athletes qualify from semi-finals. Final will be played over one game. If tied a 9th and 10th frame roll-off will be played to decide the winner. Athletes will play on one pair of lanes, one athlete per lane. Highest ranked athlete from group match play gets the chose starting lane (left or right). Ties for ranking will be broken by total pinfall in qualification.

Singles 65+

Doubles 50+

Style of play
Single lane style
• A game shall be played on one lane.
• Members of competing teams; trios, doubles and individual shall successively and in regular order bowl one frame on one lane until 10 frames are bowled on the lane.
Match play format
• Each team bowls one match against every other team in the group
• Matches may consist of one or more games
Baker format
• In the Baker format, members of competing doubles successively and in regular order bowl complete and consecutive frames within the same game
• Athlete one bowls frame 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. Athlete two bowls frame 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10.
• Doubles teams are required to change the starting player after each game

Doubles Team nomination
All federations are allowed to enter two 50+ doubles teams per gender. The athlete nominations for the teams must be delivered to IBF Tournament office in Dubai International Bowling Center no later than 18:00 (6.00pm) on Nov 18th.

Doubles qualification event
10 games baker style. Top 16 double teams qualify for group match play. Change of lane after every two games. One team per lane.
Ties to advance are broken by a one game match between the tied teams. The tie-breaker match will take place immediately after qualification. Additional ties will be broken by a 9th & 10th frame roll-off.

Doubles group match play
16 double teams qualify from qualification. 4 groups of 4 teams are created based on position in qualification. Each group will play 3 games Round Robin. 3 points will be awarded for a win in a match, 1 point to each team for a tie. From each of the 4 groups the top 2 teams in points will advance to quarter finals.
Teams will play on one pair of lanes, one team per lane. Lanes are assigned from a predetermined schedule.

Ties to advance will be broken by a one game match between the tied teams. The tie-breaker match will take place immediately after last group match have been played. Additional ties will be broken by a 9th & 10th frame roll-off.

Doubles 65+

Style of play

• Doubles teams are required to change the starting player after each game

Doubles Team nomination
All federations are allowed to enter two doubles teams per gender. The athlete nominations for the teams must be delivered to IBF Tournament office in Dubai International Bowling Center no later than 18:00 (6.00pm) on Nov 18th.

Doubles qualification event
10 games baker style. Top 4 double teams qualify for semi-final. Change of lane after every two games. One team per lane. Ties to advance are broken by a one game match between the tied teams. Mixed team finals

Timing – IBF Shot Clock

IBF Super World Championships 2021 will be played using one lane courtesy. In addition to that a shot clock will be used in every game played. The shot clock will be strictly enforced during every aspect of the tournament.

I. The following time rules apply and will be strictly enforced during the entire event.
II. First shot in a frame. When your opponent leaves the approach and you have a full set of pins, you have 30 (thirty) seconds complete your shot. The shot is deemed complete in shot clock terms when the ball is fully released and has passed the foul line.
III. Second shot in a frame. After your first ball have returned to the ball return, you have 30 (thirty) seconds to complete your shot. The shot is deemed complete in shot clock terms when the ball is fully released and has passed the foul line.
IV. First offence: A warning for slow bowling is given to the player/team
V. Second offence: The shot will count as a foul, nulling any pins knocked down in that shot.
VI. Third, and continued offence: The pin count of the whole frame where the offence occurred in will be nulled
